EERIE week of fun!

Today is Friday one week left of October and then we go into  November. October has been a interesting MONTH to say the least. We have had weeks of being the MONDAYS and never seeming to end. Next week I have decided to make it a fun learning HALLOWEEN week. We will do everything Halloween okay almost everything. Math, History, Science, Art, FOOD. Yes we are a Christian family we do allow the kids to dress up but I feel it is important to truly understand what it is about. To my kids it is an excuse to go out of the house dressed up. This year they are going to 2 birthday parties that are costume parties. So we decided on Halloween to maybe go to the church for Fall festival or just stay home and eat all the yummies we will be making!

1:Daily Scripture: Everyday we listen to Keys for Kids.
  • October 25, 2010 "Do You Know Him?"
  • October 26, 2010 "Do You Know Him? (Cont'd.)"
  • October 27, 2010 "God's Training School"
  • October 28, 2010 "Ready for Storms"
  •  October 29, 2010 "Pass the Salt"
  • October 30, 2010  "Pass the Salt (Cont'd.)"
2.  Bible Study:  We will be learning the story of Joseph.  Jacob had 12 sons and out of those 12 sons he had a favorite who was Joseph.  Jacob would give Joseph something special to show how much he loved him. Well that in turn made his brothers very angry.  Well the brothers do something do something that is very evil to Joseph and Jacob their father. You can read about this story in the book of Genesis 37,39,40 and 41.

Memory verse: The Lord was with Joseph and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper. Genesis 39:23

3. History/Geography: What does Halloween really mean how did it really get started why do we get free goodies on this night? There is so much to research and discuss.
4. Math: We usually use Saxon math but next week we will be doing anything that is Halloween to spice it up. They are excited that we are doing counting, subtracting, adding, multiplying, factoring and etc. Monsters and creatures.
5. Poem: We have been working on a poem this month and we will really be focused on it being learned! Poems and rhymes are so important to help with long term memory skills. The poem we choose is October's Bright Blue Weather by Helen Hunt Jackson. My kids always feel they have done something big to be able to say the poem or rhymes. The rhyme we will be working on is called Fraidie Cat by Clinton Scollard.
6. Literature: We usually do a lot of reading and narrating. This week we will find anything Halloween related to read and do. We will make puzzles and mini books, word searches and so on the sky is the limit!
7. Artist and Musician Appreciation: Well some things don't change we will continue to learn about Edgar Degas -1834-1917 and Igor Stravinsky-1882-1971

8. Art: anything we find really what ever they choose we have so many web sites to choose things! I also use some of these sites to put weekly lessons together! There are so many but here are a few!
9.Science: We are studying bats! We will read and find out the different kinds and what they eat and do and so on. We have work sheets to help. This week is turning out to be a lot of work but they should enjoy themselves!   A lot of our schooling we do covers more then one subject. I tried to dissect  it down for you to help give an idea of what we do. I am hoping to have lots of pictures to share!   We as a family have decided that the kids will dress up in wholesome costumes nothing evil or gross.
If anyone has any ideas to add please feel free to comment! We love ideas to try and use!
Blessings~
Hold on, man.  We don't go anywhere with "scary," "spooky," "haunted," or "forbidden" in the title.  ~From Scooby-Doo

  1. Your newest follower from work boxes. I allow my kids to participate in Halloween but have the same rule no scary or evil costumes permitted.
