We say good bye to March!

Today is the last day of March 2010! We have had a couple of weeks we ended up turning into slow days meaning we took a break! We start back to school April 5th for our next 12 weeks! The kids are excited to see what we will venture in this time.

We are following a dear friends Schedule of schooling! Thank you so much Michelle (holistic Homeschooler) for being our Mentor MOM.. You are an awesome woman I really have enjoyed learning many things from you! Go visit her link and see what we will be doing this term!

I believe it is our Job to help our children to want to keep learning after they have finished doing there studies. I feel if my children stop enjoying or loving to explore gain Knowledge when we are done with our studies then I feel I have failed them. I feel it is our duty to help our children to want to learn to grow and become anything they want to and be and able to keep thriving to learn new things. To be successful!  Knowledge is POWER!!

As we get back in our daily and schooling goals I will BLOG more often. Life has been so busy and pulled me in many different directions. I am excited to slow down and smell the beautiful eduction we are going to explore as we head back to our new TERM!

Three passions have governed my life:
The longings for love, the search for knowledge,
And unbearable pity for the suffering of [humankind].
Love brings ecstasy and relieves loneliness.
In the union of love I have seen
In a mystic miniature the prefiguring vision
Of the heavens that saints and poets have imagined.
With equal passion I have sought knowledge.
I have wished to understand the hearts of [people].
I have wished to know why the stars shine.
Love and knowledge led upwards to the heavens,
But always pity brought me back to earth;
Cries of pain reverberated in my heart
Of children in famine, of victims tortured
And of old people left helpless.
I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot,
And I too suffer.
This has been my life; I found it worth living.

Hump day

Well I am still finding it hard to blog this week. We are taking an easy on schooling for next couple of weeks. We will start April 5th with our next 12 weeks. The kids are enjoying the relaxed time. We are making effort to do lots of reading time. Jon-Jon hates to read or do anything else so it is a drop your shoulders and have bad attitude time. But he is doing it. Makenzee and Lileigh get excited and love reading time!

We had our first Girl Scout Meeting Tuesday March 23, 2010. It was very nice we went over what we want to do and what we will strive to get done. There were only 4 out of the 5 girls here. We gave the girls a big safety pin and 2 beads and a butterfly charm. This our way of giving the girls incentive to want to come and join in. The girls loved it. We are hoping that the girls who go to public school will let other girls know we are excepting girls! We plan at this time of getting together every other week. The next time we have a meeting it will be April 6th, 2010. We decided to have a dinner meeting. We are going to make Tacos. Makenzee and Lileigh are excited and can not wait! When we get more girls we will have meetings every week!

Today is Wednesday March 24, 2010 We got up early do to Abbigale had a W.I.C. Appointment. Went well she weighed 25# 8oz. and was 31 inches long. She was a very good girl. She watched everyone and waited to see what was going on. Then she got off my lap and started trying to see how far she could go before momma called her. One of the times she would go further when i turned my head then when i would look she would say na na na na. She is 19 months old how in the world would she know to say that and stick her tongue out. What a turkey. Guess she was telling me well you wont let me nurse so I am going to tease you.

Over View

Been kinda lazy haven't been doing any post for blog. Been super busy. I have been sewing lots of dress's for Simply Flare. There is a festival next weekend and Simply Flare is going to be there! I have been busy iron, cutting out, stitching the dress's together as well as adding the straps and ribbon bottoms. They are sure cute. My girls keep asking me when are we going to make some for them.  So I plan on going through the house and seeing what fabric or material I can use. They will look good for the summer!

Thursday we had a great day just busy and lots of interruptions. I thought we were done when I realized I forgot a couple of subject. You ask me how I did this. Here is what our Today Goals were for march 11, 2010. Well my ADHD kinda helped me skip over the list. But over all we were successful and had a great day! The girls are so enjoying learning and becoming good stewards. Jon-Jon wants to be but is so self involved he really doesn't know how or understand. But we are working on it.

Friday we did our Today Goals for March 12, 2010. We didn't do them in the morning we did them in the evening. I sewed most of day. Once this festival is over things will be back to normal! Kenzee likes to help me when I am sewing she helps with clean up and getting the dress's I need! The girls thrive to want to sew. Maybe they will make clothes for their families one day!

We took an easy week March15-19, 2010. I had to get all the dresses done  for the  Forest Hill Nursery Festival. The kids did daily scripture, math, and reading for the most part just so we didn't get to far behind.

This weekend was so busy for me. The family stayed home do to Daddy and Makenzee were sick. They are feeling better. I am so glad to know we will be back to regular Goals once again! Being of task kinda sucks.  The kids are ready as well. They have been bummed because I wasn't able to keep our daily goals up with everyday life and schooling goals. I am so glad things will be back on track. I know I am not really touching base on what we did but that's just it I was so over whelmed or consumed trying to help Simply Flare my friends business for festival.  I hope everyone is well and I will be back to let you know how our Monday was Monday night unless LIFE happens.

"American families have always shown remarkable resiliency, or flexible adjustment to natural, economic, and social challenges. Their strengths resemble the elasticity of a spider web, a gull's skillful flow with the wind, the regenerating power of perennial grasses, the cooperation of an ant colony, and the persistence of a stream carving canyon rocks. These are not the strengths of fixed monuments but living organisms. This resilience is not measured by wealth, muscle or efficiency but by creativity, unity, and hope. Cultivating these family strengths is critical to a thriving human community."

Is it hot or is it cold?!

Today we did our Today Goals Finished everything. It has been nice because we are not behind in schooling this week nothing has detoured us. YAY to J and B Learning! Hopefully it keeps that way!

The painting we are learning is Water Mill at Kollen Near Nuenen it is Oil on canvas on cardboard. It was made in Nuenen: May, 1884. It is a nice painting it is a picture of a water house or mill and it has a water wheel in center of buildings. There is trees and and a pier with as deck. It is a neat rustic painting. I have learned to enjoy how lucky some people are when it comes to drawing or paintings. You can tell he was passionate for what he did.

We are reading for Nature Study The Burgess bird book for Children. It is a story about Peter rabbit and he is talking to all his orchard friends. They go into talking when someone is new or when they come back when winter is almost over. it is based on Peter Rabbit and  Jenny Wren and Mr. Wren.Peter Rabbit is curious and Jenny wren is very full of information and when Peter Rabbit don't believe her she gets snippy with him tells him to go ask the the other bird they are talking about to see if what she says is true!

The kids are really enjoying me reading to them. They have to narrate what we read just so they understand what is going on. As with all they other things we read or do I have to prompt them at times. I find Jon is affraid of making a mistake and isn't sure how to go about narrating and explaining what he has heard. Prompting seems to help but he kinda expects it. The kids are starting to really blossom and it is so awesome watching them grow and want to learn.

Today in our 106 Days of Creation Study we had fun making a thermometer. The took a bottle, clay, water, food coloring, straw and index card. We took the bottle and added the tap water. Then we placed couple of drops of food coloring and put straw in bottle. We then put the clay on top and made sure it was sealed so no air could escape then added the index card to the straw. Then we blow in the bottle to raise the water. Where the water stopped was normal temperature and marked card. Then we placed it outside in the warm weather and the water line went up from the normal temperature and we marked it. We pleased the bottle in the fridge and went back and checked and the water line dropped. The kids had so much fun. Well Makenzee decided to place it into the freezer to see what would happen. Well nothing it froze. She laughed and said well I learned a lesson things in freezer freeze and it's not water no more! She is so smart. * Smirk*

Abbigale is sick and she is so grumpy. That was a very interesting when it came to teaching the kids. But we did it so can't complain! Hoping she feels better tomorrow!

As we advance in life it becomes more and more difficult, but in fighting the difficulties the inmost strength of the heart is developed.

Let us not lose heart in doing good

Today here at J and B Learning we accomplished our Today Goals. We talked about Galatians 6:9 - Let us not lose heart in doing good. We focused on what we can work on not doing things that are not of God or just being human. That it is up to us to remember that even if we make error that God forgives us and forgets. But it is up to us to not repeat the same mistakes. But we have to ask God before he can forgive us and forget. I know when my children do wrong they tend to get mad at themselves and say it don't matter God thinks I am bad. And that is so not true. God don't see bad in you he sees his love and grace he gave you. It is just up to us to make sure we learn why somethings we do is wrong and make sure we don't repeat them. I am trying to get my children to realize that it is up to us to ask God for guidance and ask him to show us his way. No matter what it is we want to do!

We had art instruction today. We made Bubble art. It is a neat way of making art out of bubbles. The kids liked it . Abbigale even got into it but learned the hard way. See it is water, tempera paint, and dish soap. you use straws or anything that makes bubbles. We used straws that what we had. Well Abbi learned the hard way don't suck the straw. I explained and should her to blow and she did until the straw went into the mixture. She got a big gulp full. She looked at me with her blue eyes which were the size of saucers and after she swallowed she went gukky. I said oh sweet pea that's why we blow through it like this remember. Well she did very well until she spilled the paint mixture and her page tore. She was mad but then she thought it was funny. I guess it comes with being 18 months! As for this gulp of gukky like she said I am sure it will clean her out just fine!

Jon-Jon decided instead of doing bubble art he wanted to paint an old shirt with fabric paint. He seems to be in same rut of drawing, living, breathing Atv's and dirt bikes. His dream is to be a pro like the ones on TV. I am trying to get him to realize it is OK to paint other things like land scape, still pictures and live pictures but he always has the same excuse I draw them all the time. I am sitting and thinking of one time he actually tried to draw the neighbors house and didn't finish and let Abbi get it and then started drawing his four wheelers. Well I am praying that as he grows up he learns that the sky is the limit and he can learn to draw anything if he truly wants to learn to draw!

We did another book for the school product testing. The Perfect Rainbow: It is I! By: Joycebelle
The girls are enjoying these books. They are also enjoying narrating them. and coloring a page! this story was about believing in yourself and making yourself be able to do anything. I think  they enjoyed Duck Who Thought She Was a Watermelon"  By: Joycebelle    a little bit better. But Makenzee Loves rainbows and that's what caught her eye! I have to answer questions after we read all the books!  The kids are thinking this is cool. I was sent another one to complete but the problem is we are learning 106 days of creation for History at this time. And what was sent was on Australia. So not sure how to add that in just yet!

The kids had cleaning appointments today. Jon-Jon has three teeth that need to be sealed with sealants he has no cavities to that's great news considering I can not get him to floss his teeth or half the time brush! He goes Friday to have his teeth sealed.  Makenzee has couple of spots to watch that are not cavities but could turn into cavities if not flossed or brushed right. Lileigh has nothing to worry about she has great teeth.  Kids don't have to go back until September and they included Abbi since she has 8 teeth now. They actually said she can come now I said na lets wait until September because she will be 2 then! So we came home and finished schooling!

It is Monday Again?!

Today was a not so bad day for a Monday. We did all our Today Goals. So that is what makes it a awesome day for one and the house is still picked up! My children tend to find new home and places for things so that's how we get cluttered up. It can cause issues when you have a lot binders we have a bunch of binders and they take up lots of room!

We learned today in daily scripture "Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.Ezekiel 33:32"   that to keep being Christ like and not only when it is convenient but always because you never know when someone is watching there for if you do something not of God and someone sees it then they will rebuke you or they may think it is OK and just! So it is up to us to keep Christ like so there is never a question of our faith and everyone we grace with our presents knows who we adore!

We also learned in our creation study the water cycle. How it goes from precipitation to rain, snow or hail to land then it drains into the creeks, rivers ect. to the oceans then it turns in to vapors from the sun and goes back up to the clouds to start all over again! The kids drew a picture of a water cycle they did very well! We put them into their creation notebooks.

The kids are doing very well with ASL they have there ABC's down except for a couple. But we have mastered Thank you, Please, More, Milk, Hotdog, all done, eat. We try to use these in our everyday lives so they become a habit. Makenzee is really thriving to learning ASL so it makes it easier to want to learn with her. Jon-Jon says he wants to but he really doesn't make the effort she does. But he does kinda try so I will give him some credit. Lileigh is hit or miss. Abbi loves to sign want more. When she says it as she signs it, it is like through her nose she isn't pronouncing them. She signs eat and if you look at her she don't miss a meal. Abbigale thinks when she signs or does something she expects you to give her a high five.

In Spanish we are learning the basics like man = Hombre,  woman = mujer, girl = niña, boy = niño, tall = alto, short =bajo , young = joven, old =anciana  , fat =  gorda., thin = delgada , rich = rico, poor = probre. We have also learn Soy = I am, La = The, Es = is a. Jon is actually doing pretty well and Makenzee has her good days and her bad days. But we are starting to see they are getting it.  They do have fun trying to that makes it worth while.

We are learning a new Memory verse and it is easy so shouldn't take to long for them to learn. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. Matthew 13:16 We do these memory verses so we always remember to put them to everyday use! It is up to us to share Gods word and put it to use not just lay in the book on a shelf.  We need to be Godly examples so leave good examples. You never know if you are going to be what someone needs to be lead to know Jesus or our heavenly Father!  We don't learn them to forget them we keep them close to our hearty an when we learn new one we go over the old ones! S it always stays fresh!

I joined a site on testing schooling products. We started one today called Good Story books This not a Charlotte Mason Method but I joined site before I started the Method. I do my regular goals and do the testing as an extra. They got to listen to "The Duck Who Thought She Was a Watermelon"  By: Joycebelle

They got to pick a Video, Flash movie, E-book, Audio. There is also E-activities included,
To Color Art Prints
- Posters
- Decals
- Mobiles
- Appliqués
- T’s, Caps, &
Totes
- Party
Decorations
- Bumper
Story by Joycebelle Stickers

As Well as she included  reading supplements, stories behind the the story, word list, Flash cards, Q/A game.

I asked the kids what would they prefer to do listen to story in a different way each day or listen to a different book each day. They choose to listen to a different book each day and do an activity idea provided. So today they went through all the different to see which way they enjoyed the book better and they did the Q/A game, They had fun. My children have found they like the video and the voice book best the video was fun to see the pictures and the audio they could color or paint while listing to it. They picked a picture and then water colored it while listing to the audio book! I am sure we will be doing this off and on after we go through these books. There great because she tries to put value in them. The kids are looking forward to seeing the other books!

BBQ time

On Friday We did our Today Goals and we spring cleaned the house for Daddy's BBQ on Saturday. You know organizing school stuff and making sure things are put in right places. I really looks good when we do the extra cleaning. We finished up the girls in the woods painting of Van Gogh. Next week we start our new painting and Mozart music study! This last two weeks have gone fast. We have 4 weeks left of school for this term. Makenzee is counting down the days until she can go to Texas and stay with her Granny and Pawpee. Here is the result of growing our minds and cleaning does to daddy and his girls!
                                                             " Daddy and his girls"

On Saturday we did Wednesday's Today Goals we got it finished and finished cleaning and making food. The kids helped me prep the chicken leg quarters for the grill. Lileigh poured olive oil pouring the chicken while I rubbed them down, then Makenzee took lemon pepper, season salt and garlic powder. Daddy grilled them, then added BBQ sauce right at the end with a little bit burnt but not to much! While daddy was grillin the chicken  the girls and I made potato salad, baked beans and rolls! Jon-Jon is gone when ever he has the chance with his friends he has made in our neighbor so that is why he isn't in many pictures!

The girls and I made Daddy's birthday cake we made half chocolate (homemade Mayo Cake) and other side yellow cake. After it was baked we let it cool for 20 minutes. Then we took butter knife and Makenzee went around cake. Being very careful on not scratching Mommy's cake pan. Lileigh helped Mommy put wax paper on the chopping block with tape to get ready for cake. Then we had Daddy flip cake out of pan on to chopping block. We let it cool for another hour. Then I frosted the Yellow cake with Milk Chocolate frosting and Chocolate with Butter cream frosting.  Then after I put the boarder around cake the girls each picked a color and we piped them into the icing bag. Makenzee choose green and Lileigh choose blue and Abbi choose her fingers! After girls made there art on cake  Abbigale jumped up on chair and started doing finger art and eating the cake. On one side corner area! "It is was complete!" Daddy said.
                                                             "Abbi's work of Art"

As we were waiting for who ever was coming Jon-Jon was at a friends house and they were having a crawfish boil. We they found out that it was Jon-Jon's dads birthday. So they sent a huge bowl home for Thomas and I. Now mind you I have never had them before. They are spicy and very good. Have to be careful they make your lips chapped.. Wow my lips are chapped. But they are soooooooo Yummy! I can not wait to have a crawfish boil and sucking the heads isn't that big a deal. I was so scared but it is actually more of the same flavor. Oh yes I had to go there. I was shocked I did it but can't complain because I liked it.

Little bit our new pup is really adjusting well to our family it is almost like she realizes it is home and she is safe. Now mind you she was never inside dog always outside. But you can not tell. She has one accident in house and no others. Yoogalee is starting to play with her but she still guards her bowl from Little bit. But the animals are all becoming friends. Little bit is scared of Kraker the Quaker. But she is liking to sniff her until she pecks her nose. Kinda funny really.          "LITTLE BIT"
                                                                      "YOOGALEE"

Sunday Daddy woke up sick. Guess he got what I have had all week last week. So we had a lazy calm do nothing day. I sewed some ribbon on dresses I made. Made our weekly Today Goals. I hope this week is a successful week and no one else gets sick or we have to have make up days!

Sick and over it

Yesterday was a non school day or was it?! I was sick so I did not do our Today's goals yesterday. So kids kinda had a romper day so nothing got done or did it?! Well we may not of done our traditional Method of schooling but the kids did science, math, reading and life skills. Here is what our Today's Goals we will do Saturday!.

How you may ask well they helped me buy making dinner and Daddy's brownies for his birthday! We first had to read (READING)the recipes to know what went in to them. Then we had to measure ( MATH) the ingredients to know how much went into the dish. Then we had to place ingredients in to pot and bowl (SCIENCE) mix cook, bake. we made Corn/shrimp chowder and Brownies. This was Daddies Birthday meal. It all turned out very yummy.

We also have a new addition to the Tribe. She is a dog a very cute collie looking dog and she is considered a small dog. Guess Daddy thought since it was his birthday he would bring home the dog who stole his heart and he would ask the people who owned her if he could have her. Funny because they would say maybe next time you come around.  Guess his birthday was a lucky day because that's the day Little Bit come to live with the Johnson Tribe!  Little Bit fits in really well and it is almost like we have always had her. Weird how somethings that are meant to be work out!  HERE IS LITTLE BIT!!!!!

Today we did our Today's Goals unfortunately since we didn't do our goals yesterday we will do them Saturday. Yep good ole' grade a Saturday school!  On top of that Saturday is Daddy's birthday BBQ! So we have our day full and it is even here yet. One things nice about this Method it don't take to long or much out of day if your Tribe stays focus and or doesn't have a bad day, or appointments and so on and so fourth. But we gets lots done everyday and our children are surly showing signs of looking out of the box and I really love that! So a Saturday school is not a bad thing it is another day of goals!

I do believe I am finally on the mend just not hundred percent but tomorrow is another day and I know it will be better yet! I just can't wait for my nose to quit running it's making my legs sore.. hehehe

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

If only we could rewind

Well We didn't get to start schooling until later then usual. I had to go to Doctor Appointment that was scheduled back in December. After being poked and prodded by the doctor I was ready for lunch! And let the destruction begin.

Well Jon-Jon had a meltdown first time in long time. Guess the Honey moon is over for our new method for him. He always says and doesn't mean things when he gets like that. But then when he calms down he never remembers all the ugliness. I am always praying that God will take the mental block away. It's really hard at times to deal with him. To be honest it can be exhausting. Wonder if I can truly the parent he needs. But I know God isn't going to allow me to have more then I can handle. But he does allow us to go through trials only to make us stronger. Let me tell you lots of " PRAYER" goes on in this house!

All I have ever wanted for him or any of my children is success. Having a child with Bi-polar with psychosis and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. It is so not pleasant I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy if I had one. It totally affects everyone in the house. Everything he does it trickles down to the girls. There are days like today I just think ok April you have 3.5 yrs left then he can be his own man and see how uneasy and unforgiving this world really is. Then I snap back into reality and realize Oh my goodness I need to nurture him and keep showing him love so he can function as an adult in the real world. It scares me to death at times. He is a great kid and has a great potential. If only I could get him to focus on other things rather then being a four wheeler and dirt bike racer and focusing on getting as much knowledge as his mind will let him. I tell him the sky is the limit and it keeps going on and on! It is up to us parents to keep loving our children and not giving up. Trust me that sometimes seems like it would be for the best.

Well after about 3 hours of his rough day. He joined the girls and I for schooling. It was kinda hard keeping girls focused at times when he was melting down. But we made it through it Thank you Jesus! Jon-Jon came out and apologized and started doing his work. He even offered to be the Creation study Teacher.  We learned about how God made water. He made water so things could sink and float. Jon-Jon did the experiment with the girls. Here is Todays Goals.

I am very proud of my son for he pulled himself together and then went out of his way to help teach and learn with his sisters. It turned out to be a great day after all. That's when I know I am doing what God wants me to. The girls helped me make biscuits and sausage gravy. It was a nice day to have a hardy breakfast dinner do to the cold weather.

Overview

We had a a busy weekend. Saturday we got up did our routine and started our day. We went to Lowes and made there lowbots the kids had an extremely awesome time using the hammer so much so I have a blood blister to prove it. The cars look great! We found out that they have these Clinic every 2 weeks I do believe our Tribe will be joining them as much as we can!

We then went to Micheals Knack kids and they got to learn about  Water molecules and sulfur molecules well as see how you can change color with the 3 primary colors. Example: primary colors are Red, Yellow, Blue. 2nd dairy color is Red and Blue makes purple,  red and yellow make orange, blue and yellow make green. Now then there is the third color stage. if you mix purple and yellow together you will get brown as well as orange and green and so on. It was so cool the kids said.

We also was busy help Nonnie ( Thomas's Mom Marilyn) get her rental finished for the new renters to move in this week. On Sunday we went back when it was night time to try to finish do to dishwasher wasn't hooked up and had to go to Lowes again fun fun when it is closing and you have all 4 kids with you! They had fun at house there is no electricity hooked up so we had brought our generator and a light. They had a blast making shows and pretending to be on stage singing. Kids are crazy!

Today was our Friday schedule because so much needed to be done and still not crazy! I have been sewing dresses for Simply Flare and the kids have not given me a chance to finish even one of the five i have in progress. Now thats crazy.

Back to schooling our Todays Goal went smoothly I was very proud of Jon-Jon he actually took charge and helped us get through them! So we were successful learning time. We are still working on kindness and putting into work in our lives everyday! Sometimes that is soooo hard but we are learning that it is sooooo important. It is Something God commands from us! It has been very chilly here unfortunately kids  didn't get to go outside do to cold rain... But we had a wonderful nature adventure A lizard graced us with his presents and Abbi wore him around like he was her earring for long time. Nature can be so cool!!

Reading about nature is fine, but if a person walks in the woods and listens carefully, he can learn more than what is in books, for they speak with the voice of God. George Washington Carver quotes
